Following the successful CIArb Cyprus Branch International Conference, “Specialisation – A Trend in International Commercial Arbitration”, senior officials of the CIArb Cyprus Branch paid an official visit to the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus as part of the programme accompanying the official visit of Dr Cesar Pereira, President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), to Cyprus.

The delegation was led by Andrew Demetriou, Chairman of the CIArb Cyprus Branch, and Stavros Pavlou, Vice Chairman of the CIArb Cyprus Branch and included Dr Cesar Pereira, CIArb President and Platonas Stylianou, CIArb Member and President of the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE),

The delegation was welcomed by George Savvides, Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, Savvas Angelides, Deputy Attorney General, and Rena Papaeti Hadjicosta Senior Counsel and Head of Public Contracts, for an extensive and constructive meeting focusing on the future development of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in Cyprus.

The discussions centred on opportunities for cooperation between the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus and CIArb, particularly in relation to professional training and the wider promotion of ADR within the public sector. Among the topics explored were the potential delivery of CIArb training programmes for legal officers of the Law Office and the increasing use of ADR mechanisms in public procurement and public contracts. The discussions reflected a shared recognition of the value that specialised ADR training and international best practices can bring to the public sector and the continued development of dispute resolution in Cyprus.

The meeting formed part of a broader programme of engagements during Dr Pereira’s visit to Cyprus, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue between the international arbitration community and public institutions. It also reinforced the shared commitment to strengthening Cyprus’ position as a leading regional centre for international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

At Patrikios Legal, we are pleased to participate in these important discussions, reaffirming the firm’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance arbitration, professional education and the effective use of alternative dispute resolution in Cyprus and beyond.
